The Light of Home was completed over many years and holds a special place in Gabriel's heart. The painting was begun with the intention of artistically depicting the warmth of home by echoing the colors of the painting's warm sunrise in the color of the firelight coming through the cabin's windows. However, the painting remained unfinished when Gabriel left his home in Alaska to serve in the military. He finished the painting following the completion of his military service in 2022. The painting has become a reminder of how cold and dark the world can seem when one is traveling far from home.
